Sparky
"Wanted to let you both know that Sparky had to be put down today. He started having tremors around 3pm today. I gave him fluids because he was dehydrated and he had no color in his gums so he was going into shock. So I got him as warm as I could and gave him pedialyte because the only thing I could think of was that he was going into hypoglycemic shock or worst case were that these tremors I was seeing were actually seizures and it was really distemper. If he hadn't come from Terre Haute I would have thought it was distemper. But the fact that I almost never get anyone seriously ill from you on top of the fact that it didn't really seem like your typical seizure, I was leaning more towards hypoglycemia. We raced him to our vet and they did all kinds of blood work and found that he was in acute kidney failure. They asked how long he was at Terre Haute because he could have been poisoned with Anti-freeze and that would cause the kidney failure but I told them it looked like you all had him since May 5th. He said Anti freeze kills the dog within 7 days. So then he said this had to be a congenital defect. He was either born with one kidney that was too small or only one kidney period. He mentioned that if he was dropped off at Terre Haute the owners probably knew his condition. We will never know about that of course. The poor boy goes through the stress of 2 different environments and now has to be put down. Life certainly isn't fair. Wanted to let you know. He just had gone up for adoption today too.'

Missy
"we have bad news missy passed away this morning(5-19- 2010). she has been part of the family from day, we loved her very much. sorry for the messy e-mail im crying as im typing" For those who are not familiar these two seniors were left at the shelter last September as the owners said they were moving. Miss and Bea have probably received more love at the home of Cathy and Laura then they received in their whole life - as we find in most foster homes. Thank you so much for giving them the attention, hugs, kisses and love and opening your home to them.....I know you received as much affection as you gave. Missy will be missed by more of those than you know.....including Bea.

Priscilla
Priscilla was found dead on the side of road -- US-23 in Michigan. Apparently hit by a vehicle. Picked her up after receiving a phone call from a driver who stopped and seen she had a collar and tag with our number on it. She traveled 25-30 miles from Blissfield (foster home) to where she was found

Pickles
Pickles--almost 11 years old--Poor Pickles was brought to the shelter along with 4 or 5 chi's because her owner committed suicide. The owner's mother came and reclaimed the chi's but no one wanted Pickles. She never showed much emotion and already had some vision problems. The Shar Pei rescue that has Phoebe took her in. She immediately discovered Pickles was having seizures and put her on meds to help control. But, last week she had one that she could not come out of and had to be hospitalized. When she returned home, she had become totally blind from the seizure and walked constantly in circles. The rescue decided that putting her to sleep was the humane thing to do. At least she spent her past 9 months in a loving home.
